Global intelligence: what the news flow says about stress

This page reads the global news flow through GDELT, a public index of worldwide news coverage. Every 15 minutes it pulls up to 50 recent English-language headlines per region for 17 regions, scores their tone, counts crisis-related themes such as debt, banking stress, sanctions and conflict, and lists the latest crisis-related events worldwide. Regions are ranked from the most negative coverage down.

How to read it. Tone runs from -10 (very negative) to +10 (very positive). A region whose tone keeps sliding while its crisis themes multiply is drawing sustained negative coverage - often before the market signals on the dashboard react. One bad headline rarely moves the average; watch the 24-hour change and the theme count rather than any single story.

Limitations. Tone is our own score, based on positive and negative words in headlines - not GDELT's sentiment model - and themes are found by keyword matching, so unusual wording can mislead both. Coverage is English-language only and limited to 17 regions. When GDELT is unreachable, the page falls back to headlines from our own news feeds.
